Review: Blazblue – Calamity Trigger

Blazblue US Cover

Time for the review for Blazblue – Calamity Trigger.  Available on PS3 and XBOX360.

Review is after the jump.

What is it?
Blazblue – Calamity Trigger is a fighting game by Arc System Works whom you may be familiar with their famous franchise of Guilty Gear series.  Blazblue is the successor of Guilty Gear.  The game features 12 playable character and the console version features story mode of each characters.

Gameplay
It’s a fighting game.  Each character has their special called “Distortion Drive” and one special that practically kills the opponent called “Astral Heat”.  Unlike Guilty Gear (I am sorry I can’t help to compare), this Astral Heat move can only be executed during the last round and when opponent has 20% HP, while in Guilty Gear, you can practically do it anytime and kill (destroy) your opponent in an instant.

The game also features a story mode of each characters, where if you are familiar with Visual Novel (or maybe Melty Blood), then you will probably understand.  Basically you will encounter alternate endings and the real ending in which the path depends on your course of actions, like choice you made and the outcome of the battle.

Who is it for?
Fighting game fans!  Or maybe if you are just a casual fighting gamer like me (who got his ass kicked often), this game is still fun to play especially the story mode.

What do I think?
This game is awesome.  The characters are interesting and the story mode is fun to play, too.  The only complain I have is the ugly interface during the menu selection.  I have to look carefully what I am selecting, since the interface looks a bit messy.  Well, that’s about all the complain.  The gallery has awesome arts and I wish I could afford high end equipment to rip those images!

Oh yes, the opening song is good as well.  Well, it’s by KOTOKO.
